From tea estates to mountain skies

Madulsima is a scenic hill-country village in the Badulla District of Uva Province, about 25 km from Badulla town. Surrounded by rolling tea estates and forested ridges, it is one of Sri Lanka's quietest highland escapes — a place where the morning mist rolls over the tea and the evenings fill with cool mountain air.

The area is best known for its tea plantations, its waterfalls, its caves and its world's-end viewpoints. Visitors come for peaceful nature, photography, short hikes and night camping — not for crowds. The local plantation communities, small shops and homestays give the village a warm, authentic welcome.

Because the viewpoints sit high in the hills, the weather decides what you see: the dry season (December to April) offers the clearest views, while the waterfall is at its fullest after the rains. Whenever you visit, please travel lightly and leave no trace — Madulsima's calm is its greatest treasure.

How to get there

  1. Travel to Badulla by train or bus — the hill-country railway to Badulla is an attraction in itself.
  2. Take the Madulsima road from Badulla town — a winding, scenic climb of about 25 km through tea country.
  3. Use a tuk-tuk or your own vehicle for the viewpoint roads, which are steep in places.
  4. Drive slowly to Mini World's End — you can reach the peak on wheels, but the road demands care.
